Why Genting shares droped from RM45+ to RM8+ early 2007?

It's due to share split of 1 to 5.

Before the share split, Genting share's PAR value was RM0.50, and market value was RM45+. After the share split, the PAR value is RM0.10, and the market value of Genting share droped to RM9+. Recently (22nd June 07) the market value is around RM8.00 for each share.

There are sayings that the market value moves very narrowly or slightly downward is because of huge number of shares available after the split. There are more than 29 billions shares now. (If you compare 29 billions shares of Genting with 60 thousands shares of Nationwide Courier Services Bhd, then you can have better picture)

Whether the investment funding for Singapore's Sentosa casiono project is from Genting Groups of Malaysia or not, stock analysts consider the prospects and profit are very good because of additional source of revenue (from Sentosa casino project).

Where to get online bursa malaysia stocks prices?

I find out that the 2 websites below are very helpful in getting me started for FREE stocks prices information:

1. Bursa Malaysia http://www.klse.com.my (At the main page, Goto the menu: market information >> Prices >> Equities)

  • Good: The prices updates are nearly real-time.
  • Good: It is the most complete 1-stop portal for everything regarding Bursa Malaysia.
  • Good: No user registeration and login are required. No worries for privacy!
  • Bad: Only basic stocks prices info [REF(Open)/High/Low/Last/Change/Volume], and basic market summary info [Top Gainers (=10 Top Gainers by price change), Most Active (=10 Most Active stocks by volume), Top Losers (10 Top Losers by price change), At a Glance(stocks market summary)
  • Bad: You have to browse and search in different menus and different pages just to dig out latest company annoucements for official news/dividents/annual reports/quaterly reports/etc

2. The Star's Market Watch http://biz.thestar.com.my/marketwatch/

  • Good: User-friendly. The website navigation of related information is intuitive and easy-to-navigate.
  • Good: More stocks prices info like Share Price Performance, simple charts for share prices up to 1 years, and more market summary info 30 Top Gainers by price change, 30 Top Gainers by % change, etc.
  • Bad: User registration and login are required to access the info.
  • Bad: Certain information like Research, Analysis, and News seems not up-to-date and timely.
